Adoption Parties

Policy In conjunction with regional recruitment activities, the Office of Foster and Adoption Services and the Public Affairs and Information Office shall collaborate to present adoption parties.
Purpose of Adoption Parties The purpose of adoption parties is to provide an environment in which children, families and their Social Workers can be involved together to share in the matching process. The adoption parties
  • provide a comfortable yet intimate atmosphere in which waiting children and prospective adoptive parents can meet each other
  • allow the waiting children’s and prospective parents' Social Workers a chance to learn more about their clients by observation
  • further educate the prospective families about adoption and the types of children waiting for families
  • provide an informal setting for a "first visit" between the child and the prospective family
  • give waiting families an opportunity to interact with each other, and with experienced adoptive families, possibly starting new friendships, sharing experiences and learning of available resources
  • provide publicity about special needs children and adoption issues
  • allow waiting children an opportunity to meet other children who share similar situations, and to meet those who have been adopted
  • help waiting children understand that adults do care about them
  • give Social Workers an opportunity to meet with colleagues and share experiences and resources with each other.
