Preparing The Child For Placement
| Goals | In preparing the child, goals include: allowing the child to begin to verbalize or act out his/her fears, anxieties and griefs before the move occurs helping the child work through some of the fears, anxieties and griefs before the move occurs helping the child understand his/her past -- history, roots, families, reasons for moves, etc. helping the child evaluate the accuracy of his/her memories of the past increasing the child's sense of self worth. |
| Normal Ambivalence | Some children will speak one day of wanting adoption, the
next of remaining in the foster home and the next of living with a biological brother. It is not only the expression of feeling that is important, but also the resolution of the various ambivalent feelings regarding the past and future. This resolution can be accomplished through the Life Book process. |
