Clarification of Roles of Child's Social Worker and Homefinder

Assessment Period Team work by the Social Workers is important for planning the placement and the transition to the new home. Each worker has a unique knowledge of their client's strengths and weaknesses and has the trust of their client so that feelings can be more easily expressed.
Pre-Placement Visits During the pre-placement visits, the Social Workers need to be in regular contact with their clients and then with each other.
Assess the Progress As the child and family share with their workers their ambivalence, fears, hopes and anxiety, the workers will be able to assess the progress of the attachment and whether the pre-placement visits are or are not going well. The workers should use this time to assess, educate, support or prevent the placement.
Transfer From Homefinder to Social Worker If the decision is made to place the child with the family, the homefinder should facilitate the transfer of the family to the child's Social Worker, but always be available for support for either the family or the placing worker. As placement draws closer, the child's worker should begin viewing the adoptive family and child as a family unit and work with them as such.
