Supervision of Children in Adoptive Placement

48-16-3
Transferring to Another Region

Policy Literature and research shows that the fewer changes in Social Workers a child experiences, the better are the child's chances in placement. Given this fact, it is strongly recommended that cases not be transferred except for compelling reasons.
Guidelines for Transfer If it is necessary to transfer cases, the following guidelines should be used.

•The transfer of cases must take place no later than ninety (90) days after the child has been placed in the adoptive home.

•The child's Social Worker, home study worker and new Social Worker must meet with the family and child to effect a transfer.

•The home study worker must remain involved with the family during this period of transition as a support to the family, as well as to be available for any problems that may arise.

•The home study worker can then begin to help the family connect with the new worker and begin to terminate his/her involvement with the family.
