State and Federal
Adoption Assistance |
There are two separate adoption assistance
programs offered in Connecticut. They are the:
federal adoption assistance program which helps states support the adoption of
Title IV-E (AFDC or SSI eligible) children with special needs, and
state funded assistance program for children who are not Title IV-E eligible.

Purpose |

make financial and medical subsidies available to adoptive parents to facilitate adoption
of children with special needs under the care of the Department or a Connecticut licensed
child placement agency. Note: The private agency must be statutory
parent of the child. |

| The Federal Government reimburses the state
(50%) for children found eligible under the Title IV-E adoption assistance program. All
other children who are eligible for subsidized adoption are covered by the state program. |
