State Medical Subsidy

Continuation of Medical Coverage Medical coverage, if granted prior to the adoption placement, continues unless it is determined that the child will no longer need medical coverage.
Title XIX Medicaid Program The medical subsidy (i.e., Medicaid Program as administered by the Department of Social Services) provides for payment to the medical vendors who are participating members in accordance with established fee schedules; including payment procedures that require prior authorization for certain medical services. The medical subsidy covers only those medical services approved for inclusion within the Medicaid Program by the Department of Social Services.
Continuation of Medical Benefits Any medical benefits being provided prior to the final approval of the adoption, in accordance with the fee schedule and payment procedures under the state Medicaid Program, administered by the Department of Social Services, shall continue as long as the child qualifies as a dependent of the adoptive parents under the Internal Revenue Code.
Exception Parents are allowed to receive either a special need or periodic subsidy in addition to a medical expense subsidy unless either additional subsidy is granted for the same reasons as the medical expense subsidy.
