Poor Reasons to Delay Filing for TPR

The following are poor reasons to delay filing for TPR: 

  • the treatment plan and/or the permanency plan calls for reunification

  • the possibility of consent to TPR or transfer of guardianship, without actual agreement with both parents

  • transfer of the case

  • time (or lack thereof) to write the petition

  • parents beginning to visit again

  • the child is having problems in placement, or

  • the age of the child.
