TPR:  Developing Strong Termination Cases

Suggestions for Developing Strong Termination Cases

The following are suggestions for developing strong termination cases: 

  • establish clear expectations and appropriate specific steps for both parents 

  • adjust expectations and specific steps for both parents as circumstances change 

  • assure parents are given the opportunity for services they need and that services are available 

  • have both parents sign releases for all service providers 

  • keep in close contact with service providers 

  • keep good records concerning parental visits and contacts, and quality of interaction with the child, and 

  • have an initial consultation with a Principal Attorney or Staff   Attorney with additional consults as necessary.
