Status Reports

Status Reports The Department shall file status reports as required by the court to update the court and the parties on the status of the case.
When to File Status Reports

Status reports shall be filed with the court in the following circumstances: 

  • whenever there has been a change in the circumstances of the case 

  • along with all motions requesting a change in disposition 

  • when requesting a finding that no further reunification efforts be made, or 

  • at any other time requested by the court. 

In some courts, the Department is expected to file a status report before each in-court proceeding.  Reports shall be filed in court at least three (3) business days prior to the hearing.
Contents of the Status Report

The status report should be informative, concise, and to the point.  The first paragraph should be a brief overview of the case until the most recent status report or court action. 

The second section should contain a description of all new circumstances involving the parents and children, as well as a clear statement regarding any changes or orders requested by the Department.  The final section should list the Department’s recommendations. 

The Social Worker, Social Work Supervisor and the Program Supervisor shall sign the status report.
