Assistant Attorney General

Assistant Attorney General The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) has the following role(s) in Administrative Hearings:
  • Consult with appropriate Department staff prior to the hearing.
  • Assist the Department staff in the preparation of the case.
  • When necessary, assist Department staff in case preparation although an AAG will not be representing the Department at the hearing.
  • Negotiate stipulations and settlements, when appropriate.
  • Issue subpoenas to the Department’s necessary witnesses.
  • In License Hearings and where appropriate, the AAG may be asked to effectuate the discovery process between the parties; e.g., preparation of witness lists, client’s files, receipt of opposing parties’ documentary evidence, etc.
  • Present the Department’s case.
  • Examine and cross-examine witnesses.
