Requesting a Foster Home

Policy When a foster care placement is needed, the investigator shall submit a request to the FASU matcher to locate a suitable placement.

In an emergency situation, the investigator may select a home from the emergency foster home list.

Considerations for the Child The investigator shall
  • attempt to learn as much about the child’s habits, likes and dislikes, as possible
  • ensure that the child's favorite toys and personal belongings are brought with the child to the placement
  • help the child feel safe in the new home by introducing all persons who live in the home and taking the child on a tour of the home.
Documents for the Foster Parent At the time of placement, the investigator shall provide the foster parent with a Placement Portfolio containing information and documents that are necessary for the care and supervision of the child. 

Information that is not available at the time of placement must be supplied to the foster parent within thirty (30) days of the date of placement.

In an emergency situation, information to meet the child's immediate needs that is not available at the time of placement shall be provided within twenty-four (24) hours, or one (1) working day.
