CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATIONS
Special Review Unit

Introduction

Definition of SRU The Special Review Unit (SRU) is a unit within the Bureau of Quality Management which is responsible for conducting timely internal case reviews of the following types of cases:
  • child fatalities in those Department cases which

    -  are open, or
              

    -  were closed within six (6) months prior to the child’s death

  • other cases at the request of the Commissioner, or designee.
Critical Incident Reports Although the SRU will review only those cases defined above, all critical incidents as defined in policy 31-8-3 are reported to the Special Review Unit for the following purposes:
  • providing information to the Commissioner’s Office
  • collecting data for Department policy development and training
  • analyzing trends and practices
  • providing information to the Director of Public and Community Relations.

Commissioner’s Annual Report Annually, the SRU shall submit to the Commissioner a report on Department related child fatalities in Connecticut.
