Introduction
| Definition of SRU |
The Special Review Unit (SRU)
is a unit within the Bureau of Quality Management which is responsible for conducting
timely internal case reviews of the following types of cases:
- child fatalities in those Department cases which
- are open, or
- were closed within six (6) months prior to the childs death
- other cases at the request of the Commissioner, or designee.

| Critical Incident Reports |
Although the SRU will review only those cases defined above,
all critical incidents as defined in policy 31-8-3 are
reported to the Special Review Unit for the following purposes:
- providing information to the Commissioners Office
- collecting data for Department policy development and training
- analyzing trends and practices
- providing information to the Director of Public and Community Relations.

| Commissioners Annual Report |
Annually, the SRU shall submit to the Commissioner a report
on Department related child fatalities in Connecticut. |
