CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATIONS

Reports Received on an Open Investigation

Policy Any report involving a child who is the subject of an open investigation, or a sibling of such a child, shall be assigned to the investigator who is conducting the open investigation unless that investigator is unavailable.
Definition An open investigation is an on-going investigation by the assigned investigator of an allegation of abuse, neglect, or in danger of abuse.
Case Assignment The investigation supervisor shall review and assign the new report within the guidelines specified in DCF policy 34-4, "Response Time for Commencement and Completion of an Investigation".

If the investigator who is investigating the original report is not available, the supervisor shall assign the new investigation to another investigator who shall

  • commence an investigation in accordance with reponse time policy
  • be responsible for processing court documents, if immediate court action is required
  • provide or arrange for services which are immediately necessary to protect the child; e.g., medical services, foster care placement
  • record the investigation information in LINK.

The original investigator shall follow-up with required case activity upon re-assuming responsibility for the investigation.
